Environmental News

This page is dedicated to Environmental achievements of the hotel.

Since taking over the hotel back in December 2005, the partners Paul, David and Alex are committed to providing a good, high quality service, whilst minimising the environmental impact of our activities, also developing and promoting high environmental standards in all areas of the business, with the aim of progressively reducing the impact of the hotel operations on the environment.

A symbol of this commitment is our membership of VisitScotland's Green Tourism Business Scheme.

The Scheme provides independent accreditation and encouragement for tourism buisnesses to reduce the environmental impact of their activities.

By encouraging sustainable practices it ensures the continued enjoyment of the environment of Scotland for future generations.

One of the first items to be addressed is that a Environmental Policy Statement was drawn up, along with a Sustainability Policy.

Following this, the partners decided that a key benefit of living and working is such a wonderful area as The Cairngorms National Park we would achieve The Green Tourism Business Scheme Award and achieved a Bronze Standard.

From then on we we recycle the following items at the hotel, from Office Paper, Glass (Brown, Green, Clear) General Waste, Cardboard, Cooking Oil Etc.

The hotel continues to monitor monthly readings on Electricity, Gas. Our water is drawn from a natural spring and not mains, in 2007 we had fitted a ultra violet steriliser and sediment filter to the incoming water supply, and as such have to advise residents that our water is sourced from a natural spring.

For those interested the breakdown of items were Office Paper 1.6 tons Glass 5.2 tons, General: Waste 1.2 tons, Cardboard 10.4 tons in 2006.

In 2007 we recycled 1.664 tons of Waste Paper, Glass 10.4 tons,

General Waste 1.664 tons, Cardboard 10.4 tons a total amount ot 24.12 Tons diverted from landfill.

Also in 2006 the hotel became members of the The Considerate Hoteliers Association, www.consideratehoteliers.com.

In October 2007 the hotel had planted over 60 Rowan (Sorbus) trees which are native to the area, to enhance the drives and create a avenue of tree's but also to encourage wildlife in and around the area.

To round off 2007 the hotel won a Green Butterfly Award from the Aberdeenshire Environmental Forum in developing towards a more sustainable business by producing a considered envionmental statement, reducing waste to landfill, and encouragement of wildlife.

Our aim is for our environmental page to continue and grow, please keep watching
